Passing of Cliff Laube
2018. He was born on January 1, 1931 in Montclair, NJ to Clifford and
Dora (Weber) Laube, the youngest of four children. He is survived by his
sister, Marguerite (Laube) Daley, age 94, of Jeffersonville, NY.
A former Catholic priest (Montfort Fathers), Clifford's Christian faith
guided him on his journey through life. He earned advanced degrees as a
priest€"including a doctorate in Canon Law (JCD) and studied in Rome. In
1970, he married Esther Hogan of Brooklyn, NY, herself a former nun, and
started a family. He was a financial planner and held Director-level
positions at the Area Agency on Aging and the United Way (Bridgeport),
and the State of Connecticut retiring in 1997 from DHMAS (Department of
Mental Health and Addiction Services).
Clifford was known for his devotion to an ever-growing circle of friends
and his kindness to people in need. He loved hiking, road trips,
reading, classical music, discussing religion and science, and poetry
especially the work of his father, American Catholic poet and
newspaperman Clifford J. Laube, Sr. He was a fan of the Brooklyn
Dodgers, the New York Mets and UCONN Women's Basketball. In his
retirement, Clifford returned to Italy many times with family and friends.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Esther; his daughters,
Rebecca and Maria; son Clifford and his wife Yvonne; and four
grandchildren, Lia, Edward, Cara and Robert. A funeral service will be
held on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church,
910 Main Street South, Southbury, CT. The family will greet friends at
church beginning at 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of
flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Saint Mary's Hospital
Foundation, (203) 709-6390 <tel:%28203%29%20709-6390>.
