Hassett, Joseph D., of Baldwin, on June 26, 2026, in his 90th year. Devoted husband of Carol (nee Polo) in their 50th year. Beloved father of Kevin (Jacqueline), Raymond (Jacqueline), Peggy (Thomas) and Joseph (Patricia). Dear grandfather of Patrick (Liz), Timothy (Amanda), Meghan (Max), Kevin, Jessica, Jennifer (Mary), R.J., Keenan, Brielle, Declan, Seija and great grandfather of Jonah, Harli, Maverick and Harlowe. Joe entered Montfort Preparatory in 1953 as a college freshman. He was invested in May 1955. Following Novitiate, he went on to complete philosophy and theology studies in Litchfield, CT. Joe was ordained a priest in St. Anthony's Church in Litchfield on Feb. 22, 1964. Ordained with him were Dick Schebera, the late Jere Pramuk and the late Bernard "Chick" Schultz. A photo of Fr. Patrick Gaffney and that ordination class was sent to me by Dick Schebera. I will forward it shortly in a separate email.

 

Following ordination, Joe was sent to Borneo, Indonesia to spread the good news of salvation and minister to Christians residing there. He served as a missionary for approximately 6-7 years. Shortly after returning to the U.S. he left the community.

 

I was a young student at Montfort Prep while Joe Hassett also attended. He was known and well-respected as a "good guy". He attended our 2015 reunion in Bay Shore but regular communication with him since then, gradually became less frequent.
